Plain but distinctive small stumpy babbler. Quite different from in shape from larger babblers because of its shorter tail. Black mask white eye ring, pale bill and a whitish underpart and pale yellow iris gives it a distinctive look. Found in the Western Ghats of India and the forests of Sri Lanka. They forage in flocks in the undergrowth of forests constantly making calls and uttering alarm calls when disturbed. Gives mechanical-sounding rattling ticks. The nest looks like some dry leaves stuck in a Bush with the opening on the side. Locally named Wathanduru Panduru Demalichcha.
